Current Groups

WAEML has a varied group work and activities programme.  Please look at our What’s On page for any public events we have running, you can book tickets for all public events through Eventbrite.

Our group work programmes offer safe, supportive spaces where women, children and young people can connect, learn and grow at their own pace.

We understand the impact domestic abuse can have on confidence, wellbeing and relationships.

Our groups are designed to reduce isolation, build strengths and support recovery in ways that feel respectful, empowering and safe.

Our groups are carefully designed and delivered by specialists who understand trauma, recovery and resilience.

All our groups are:

  • Free
  • Specialist and domestic abuse–informed
  • Trauma-informed and strengths-based
  • Facilitated by trained, experienced staff
  • Grounded in safety, choice and respect
  • Designed to build confidence, connection and hope

We create spaces where participants feel believed, supported and valued without pressure or judgement.

Who are our groups for

Groups for Women: Our women’s groups support recovery, confidence and connection after being subjected to domestic abuse. They offer opportunities to share, reflect, learn and rebuild alongside other women who understand.

Groups for Children: Our children’s groups provide safe, age-appropriate spaces to explore feelings, build emotional understanding and develop confidence through play, creativity and connection.

Groups for Young People: Our young people’s groups offer supportive spaces to explore identity, relationships, boundaries and wellbeing without judgement and at their own pace.

All groups are delivered with care, compassion and specialist understanding.

How our groups work

We know joining a group can feel daunting, so we keep things clear, flexible and supportive:

  • Small, welcoming groups
  • Regular courses and one-off workshops
  • In-person and online options
  • No pressure to speak or participate
  • Confidential, respectful environments
  • Support available before and during groups.

You can take part as much, or as little, as feels right for you.

Our groups are delivered by skilled, compassionate practitioners with specialist training and experience in domestic abuse and trauma-informed practice.

Our staff:

  • Are highly trained and supported
  • Work with care, integrity and respect
  • Understand the impact of trauma
  • Create calm, inclusive group spaces.
You’ll be met with warmth, understanding and professionalism every time.

Our core programme

These programmes run regularly and form the heart of our group work offer.

For women:

For children and young people:

Alongside our core programmes, we offer:

  • One-off workshops
  • Creative and wellbeing sessions
  • Confidence-building activities
  • Social and peer-support events.

These sessions evolve on the needs of women, children and young people but focus on connection, creativity and community. We know that healing also happens through laughter, shared experiences and trying something new. Please ask our staff about current and upcoming group activities.

There are different ways to access our group programmes.
